Friends of Clark Field - We feel your pain

We know that the City of Cleveland Department of Public Health is a mess - we also know that Clark Field has had no action now for over a year.  I can feel for the folks in Tremont - afterall, those of us in Brooklyn Centre were royally screwed over.

The October issue of Inside Tremont has an update by Beverly Wurm of the Friends of Clark…

Clark Field information in April TWDC newsletter

Clark Field Renovation

At a late February community meeting, the City of Cleveland

reported that the renovation of Clark Field will begin in 2015.

For this reason, no permits will be given to use the park for

organized activities. The park is open to the public, but there

will be heavy equipment in the park at times as they are still

doing soil testing.

The City of Cleveland, Councilman Joe Cimperman and the

Friends of Clark Field will publicize another…

Attorney needed to submit request to EPA

We seek the need of independent experts to review and investigate this proposed remediation plan for W. C. Reed Park. We seek the help of an environmental attorney to send EPA a letter addressing the need for topsoil testing and legal issues concerning the use of emergency funding for a brownfield site where no surface contamination has been shown to be present…

Southwest Citizens Meeting Thurs @joecimperman

I would ask every one attending Joe's fundraiser this Thursday to remember his constituents in Brooklyn Centre - he may not be able to attend the community meeting this Thursday - but he can send word through a rep or by contacting Dane Reich with his reaction to EPA walk through with residents and his commitment to help protect the future of our park.

Southwest Citizens

At Southwest Citizens meeting 9/5 - James Justice from EPA spoke entire time -responding to resident questions and allaying fears about testing on adjacent property owner properties - the waiver allowed access to proceed with testing - residents are encouraged to contact Dane Reich to address their preferred strategy for the remediation - http://www.livecleveland.org/node/6030 an ad hoc group has formed to address concerns.

Remediation history WC Reed Field -Brooklyn Centre Naturalists

Several months ago, Tim and I were asked to join a group of neighbors who were trying to save the trees at W.C. Reed Park. “The City” (city employees dealing with this have been Don Kasych, Richard Silva, and Director Michael Cox) said that a mere 9 trees out of 60 oak, cottonwood, and linden trees would be saved when the soil remediation authorized and paid for by the Federal EPA was accomplished. We found this outrageous and unacceptable—these are large, mature, valuable trees that…

Eight Questions

The questions that have not been addressed or answered to our satisfaction include the following:

1. How significant are the health risks posed by the contaminants to those (occasionally) using the park and to those living in the immediate and the extended vicinity of the park and the landfill?

2. How will the toxic landfill problem impact the property values of homes built on, adjoining or in the general vicinity of the landfill area that includes and extends beyond…

Meeting on WC Reed Field

August 26th, 2013 at 6:30pm

St. Barbara’s Church Hall, 1505 Denison Ave.

The closing of W.C. Reed Park has been a very hot topic in our community. This park has been closed since last fall.

Many of you attended the emergency meeting that was called last December to let us know what was going on with the park. Apparently, toxic contaminants (Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons PAH’s) were found in the park soil. Unfortunately we have not been given much information on the final…

Draft of possible MOA?

RESIDENT TERMS
1.) Evidence a plan that proves how City will PROTECT ALL mature and currently-very healthy Oak trees in the park with strictly cordoned off areas - enforced during construction.
Residents should ID trees needed to be felled for truck access to both sides of the park - Honey Locusts on North side (adjacent to Mapledale) can be removed to allow trucks to access the side of park west of Oak tree…

Possible MOA before meeting

Councilman Cimperman called me Friday 8/2 p.m. - in fairness - he is committed to many public events in August - and I am grateful that he returned my call from the a.m. He is working to meet residents needs - we need to get major requests in order and be ready to present to him for possible legal document to support resident requests. He is and continues to be in support of the residents' requests.

I will not be able to join you tonight as I have missed 2 other block clubs the last two months and have to go there- I'm sorry.
